Mähren AG in the Ruhr region

MÄHREN AG opens office in Essen and expands presence in the Ruhr region

Rhine-Ruhr region important pillar of business activities alongside Berlin
Competitive advantage for 2023 through strong equity ratio
Berlin, 01 March 2023. MÄHREN AG, a long-term oriented and nationwide operating portfolio holder with focus on residential real estate, opens a regional office in Essen. Through the acquisition and development of numerous apartment buildings and residential complexes, the company has already been successfully active in the Ruhr region for years. In addition to its home market in Berlin, the Rhine-Ruhr region represents an important pillar of the company’s business activities. MÄHREN AG is firmly convinced of the versatile and long-term development opportunities of the metropolitan region. The settlement of future technologies and universities attest the market in the Ruhr area a similarly high growth potential as Berlin in the 2000s.

The Ruhrpott is a so-called hot take that can no longer be ignored in the coming years.

Jakob Mähren, CEO MÄHREN AG

“The Ruhrpott is a so-called hot take that can no longer be ignored in the coming years. Duisburg alone, with the largest inland port in Europe, has a purchasing power only five percent lower than Berlin. The site opening is therefore an important component of our long-term growth strategy,” explains Jakob Mähren, CEO of MÄHREN AG.

In order to fully exploit this potential, regional business will be managed from the NRW office at Rüttenscheider Straße 144 in Essen from the beginning of March.  This is an important building block for the long-term growth strategy in the region.

“We Berliners understand Ruhrpottlers,” says Tobias Förster, Head of Transaction and head of the new office. “NRW is no longer a hidden champion, but many still don’t have the region on their radar. We are willing to go to small locations as well, looking at cities like Wuppertal or even Herne; Cologne or Düsseldorf tend not to fit our strategy. We focus on B locations, and buy a lot from private owners who want to sell their properties for reasons of age, or also buildings where management has been somewhat delayed,” adds Förster.

MÄHREN AG has a number of plans for the 2023 financial year. In times of market change, the company is significantly expanding its business activities not only in the Rhine-Ruhr region but also in the other focus locations nationwide. Due to the solid equity ratio, MÄHREN AG is able to finance quickly and easily even under the current interest rate conditions and is currently preparing several business transactions. In addition to the upcoming move to the new company headquarters in Berlin, this includes numerous transaction projects and the increased focus on asset management activities.
