ESG as an integral part of our business

We are keen to assume social responsibility because we are convinced that we can have a positive influence on communities and people. The focal point of our activities and efforts is therefore each one of us as an individual. Our concern is about the employees in our company and about the people around us. Our concern is about society.

 

Taking ESG factors into account is a fundamental component of the organisation and operational processes at MÄHREN AG. We are convinced that acting sustainably will not only make MÄHREN AG futureproof but will also benefit our business partners and tenants. We attach great importance to adopting a strategic approach and to resolutely implementing ESG criteria in our daily work processes. Our activities are geared to tackling challenges head on and in a spirit of responsibility with tenable solutions.

 

To ensure this, we make sure that our employees work together to achieve the common ESG goals so that at the same time the emission limits laid down in the Paris climate agreement are met. MÄHREN AG subjects the application of the three ESG areas to regular internal review and enhancement.

  • Our goal is to meet our entire energy needs with renewable energies through a change of provider
  • We continually improve our water management
  • Use of ecologically aware software solutions
  • We are successively migrating the entire vehicle fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles
  • MÄHREN AG owns 11.5 hectares of woods in Berlin that remain accessible to the general public and will in future be offered for social purposes

We have more than 70 employees in the company group - with a rising trend - and also prefer to resort to insourcing instead of outsourcing as a core business philosophy.

We attach great value to the compatibility of job and family. Therefore, for example, we offer flexible working hours and parental benefit plus and further elements to promote employees' satisfaction.

Young talent promotion

We promote the next generation of professionals in the form of internships and work student positions which we regularly offer.

Children's days

We organize children's days for our employees' children. This is one way we boost social cooperation among colleagues.

Local craft trades

We continually support local craft firms with commissions for our portfolio properties.

New living space

Since our company was founded, we have revitalized or erected 3,000 apartments in Berlin alone. We are also currently working on various new-build projects.

Refurbishment

We refurbish dilapidated and uninhabitable properties, so that they can be put back on the housing market and people can find a new home.

No luxury refurbishments

We do not carry out luxury refurbishments, only to hike rents sharply and get rid of existing tenants. All our refurbishments serve to maintain the building structure and inhabitability.

Urban development

We play a part in urban development by refurbishing and embellishing facades, back yards and open spaces.

Foundation

The Jakob Mähren Foundation helps people in need. A multi-facetted engagement in children's homes and neighborhood associations through to school projects with a focus on Berlin.

Learn more about the social engagement of CEO Jakob Mähren
Jakob Mähren is well known far beyond the Berlin city limits as company founder, CEO and real estate investor. In particular, in 2015 he founded the Jakob Mähren Foundation and through it supports selected social projects. Both professionally and also privately, the native Berliner has in the past engaged in social projects with great elan.
